Did you find yourself checking your work email over Memorial Day weekend? Even if you didn't INTENTIONALLY check it, did you read it when it popped up in the inbox on your phone?
So did everyone else. According to work experts, the smartphone era has basically KILLED the three-day weekend.
BUT . . . it's not necessarily your boss's fault. Your smartphone might've killed your weekend because YOU think you're REALLY IMPORTANT.
Laura Vanderkam is a work-life balance expert. She says, quote, "Many of us have an exaggerated sense of our own importance" . . . so we feel like we HAVE to check in on work when we're on vacation.
Quote, "I can tell you that [after a three-day weekend], the Earth will still be revolving, whether you've checked your email or not."
According to the latest studies, the average person checks their smartphone 150 times a day, or approximately once every six minutes. And 35% of people do at least some work on weekends.
