"The Onion" is apologizing for a vulgar tweet about the nine-year-old Oscar-nominated actress Quvenzhané Wallis. 

Quvenzhané was at the Oscars last night, where she was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild.  After she was shown on TV, she was described in an extremely offensive way in the satirical website's official Twitter account. 

The comment was taken down after about an hour and a quick backlash from other Twitter users.  

A long apology was released this morning.  It called the comment "senseless" and "humorless" and a promise was made to punish those responsible for it.
